For this blog post, I'll be focusing on Aquamarine.
As well as being the birthstone for March, it's also the traditional gift for 19th wedding anniversaries. The name 'Aquamarine' was first used in 1677 and was derived from the Latin words 'aqua' meaning water and 'marina' meaning meaning of the sea.
One of the most striking things about aquamarine is its vibrant blue colour, which ranges from pale to deep blue, depending on the stone. This colour is caused by the presence of iron and titanium, and is often described as being similar to the colour of the ocean. A type of Beryl, Aquamarine is also known for its excellent clarity, which gives it a bright, sparkling appearance.
In addition to its beauty, aquamarine is also believed to have a number of different properties, both physical and metaphysical. It is said to symbolize courage, clarity, and calmness, and is thought to have a soothing and calming effect on the wearer. Some people believe that aquamarine can help to improve communication and self-expression, as well as to stimulate the mind and enhance creativity. It is also thought to have protective properties and to help the wearer feel more connected to nature.
Aquamarine was used for protection by the Ancient Romans when travelling by sea. It was also used to make seals, figurines and engravings by the Chinese.
Aquamarine is a popular choice for a variety of different types of jewellery, including rings, pendants, earrings, and more. It is often set in gold or silver, and can be found in a variety of different cuts, including round, princess, pear, and oval. Whether you choose a simple piece of jewellery or a more elaborate design, aquamarine is a beautiful and meaningful choice.
